Forest Hill Golf Club Celebrates VE Day with Charity Open Competition

81st Anniversary

Forest Hill Golf Club proudly commemorated the 81st Anniversary of VE Day with a Special Charity Open Competition, bringing members and visitors together for a memorable day of golf, reflection, and community spirit.

The event marked the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, honouring those who served and sacrificed during World War II. Players enjoyed a fantastic day on the course with blue skies and the clubhouse proudly decorated in remembrance of the occasion with war time music playing throughout the event.

All competitors enjoyed refreshments and food in the clubhouse, along with halfway refreshments of mulled wine and cakes, which added to the warm and social atmosphere throughout the day.

The competition attracted an excellent turnout, 30 teams of 4 taking part, with golfers of all ages in a friendly but competitive atmosphere. Throughout the day, members and guests came together not only to enjoy the sport, but also to support two worthy charitable causes.

Following the competition, the presentation took place in the clubhouse where players enjoyed the usual banter and camaraderie that are all part of the golf club environment. Prizes were presented to the successful competitors, with plenty of laughs and stories shared among members and guests alike.

The winning team of the competition with 87 points went to: - Jill Lees, Sally Healey, Janette Scott and Paul Hoskison. Well done to them all.

Golfers were encouraged to embrace the theme by dressing in 1940s- style outfits and didn’t disappoint, a prize for the best outfits were awarded to “The Land Girls” Denise Davies, Pat Marlow, Lesley Anderson and Marion Parsons.

An additional number of fundraising activities took place alongside the competition, helping to raise more than £2000.00 for Rainbows and Myeloma UK, while commemorating such an important moment in history. Prize were awarded for Longest Drives: - Jo Brocksopp 5th hole and Andrew Bruce 3rd hole. Nearest the pin winners were: - Marion Parsons 4th, Janette Scott 14th, Dave Missen 4th, Chris Hooker 8th, Ian Tabberer 14th and Steve Hathaway 17th.

The club would like to thank everyone who participated, donated, and supported the event, and special thanks to the committee and staff for all their hard work in making this event a great success.

Speaking after the competition, club representatives praised the generosity and spirit shown by all involved, highlighting the importance of remembering VE Day and supporting the chosen charities.

Forest Hill Golf Club continues to take pride in hosting events that bring the community together while supporting important causes, and the VE Day Charity Open Competition proved to be a fitting tribute to this historic anniversary.
