The Course

Our stunning 18 hole golf course occupies an undulating semi-wooded landscape (forming part of the National Forest) that provides a mature setting for golf.

Forest Hill Golf & Conference Centre opened for play in 1991, but was extended to its current layout during work in 2006. The course now extends to 6,513 yards (par 73) from the white tees arranged in two loops of 9 holes, with the 1st tee and the 9th and 18th greens starting and finishing at the clubhouse, with the 10th tee within a short walk.

The course comprises four par 3’s, nine par 4’s, and five par 5’s. Water in the form of streams or lakes comes into play on 12 of the 18 holes.

Hole 1

Pro Tip

Aim for the fairway bunker off the tee and avoid the right hand side at all costs. This will leave a mid-iron approach to a generously sized green.

Hole 2

Pro Tip

Keep your drive down the right hand side and avoid taking on the trees. Make sure you club down on your 2 nd shot to avoid being long. Danger waits over the back of the green.

Hole 3

Pro Tip

A long iron or fairway wood tee shot will leave a mid-iron approach over the water.

Hole 4

Pro Tip

This first par 3 plays at least a club longer than normal and be sure to check which of the three tiers the pin is on. The green is 30 yards back to front.

Hole 5

Pro Tip

Open your shoulders and let that ball fly. Aim at the largest tree on the right for the perfect tee shot. This will leave you in position for a crack at the green in two.

Hole 6

Pro Tip

The perfect tee shot is down the right hand side as the fairway slopes from right to left. Keep your approach to the right side of the green to avoid the deep bunker on the left.

Hole 7

Pro Tip

Open those shoulders again and aim at the two silver birches in the trees on the left. The natural slope will gather the ball into the middle of the fairway, leaving a short iron 2 nd shot. Club down on your approach shot, as the fairway slopes severely down to the green.

Hole 8

Pro Tip

A tough uphill par 3 that plays long. Take more club than the yardage suggests.

Hole 9

Pro Tip

Beware of the pond on the left at driving distance. Avoid that and the hole becomes a very generous par 5 reachable in 2.

Hole 10

Pro Tip

A long iron off the tee is all that’s needed here. The fairway narrows considerably if a longer club is taken. Avoid going left with the approach as out of bounds lurks!

Hole 11

Pro Tip

This is a tough, long par 5. Keep your tee shot down the right, as out of bounds is all down the left. My advice would be to play this as a par 6. It’s easy to make a big number on this hole.

Hole 12

Pro Tip

An easy tee shot on this mid length par4, but beware this upturned saucer green is extremely difficult to stop the ball on. A run up approach is required through the valley.

Hole 13

Pro Tip

An opportunity for a big hitter to go for the green off the tee. Beware to avoid the left hand side, as water waits short and left.

Hole 14

Pro Tip

In my opinion the toughest hole on the course. A long tee shot with an incredibly tight entrance to the green. Walking off with a four on this hard par 3 is never a bad score.

Hole 15

Pro Tip

A mid to long iron off the tee will leave a short iron approach to a generous green. Make sure the tee shot avoids the trees on the right.

Hole 16

Pro Tip

A tough tee shot for this short par 5. For the longer hitters make sure to lay up short of the ditch at around 280 yards.

Hole 17

Pro Tip

A short downhill par 3 requires the golfer to club down at least one club.

Hole 18

Pro Tip

For the long hitters a real chance to get there in two. Make sure the pond on the right is avoided off the tee. Beware of the water short and left on the approach to the green.
